About us
“Sobremesa,” literally meaning “over the table,” is an untranslatable Spanish phrase encompassing the kind of conversation that happens after a big meal when bellies are full, minds are at ease, and company is enjoyed. It’s the idea of serendipitous collaboration, where ideas are explored together. This is fundamental to what we do. We believe everyone has something to offer and beautiful things happen when we put our minds together.
The Mesa Media team – Liam, Mike, and Heather – became friends at a homeschool co-op when they were in high school, but it's hard to determine exactly when the "business" began. Liam and Mike have been making videos for fun since they were kids (but of course those videos had more to do with LEGO and Star Wars than business) and Liam, who grew up watching his dad run the family business, has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. Eventually, Heather and Liam started dating, and the rest is history. But there was never a specific moment when we said, "Let's start a video company." Somewhere along the way, Liam decided to start making wedding videos for friends and travel videos of his trips, and Mike would sometimes help Liam with the editing process. That was where the magic began. When Liam's big-picture skills combined with Mike's creative, detail-oriented skills, something happened that neither of them could have accomplished on their own. They started taking on different types of projects together and from there, Mesa Media was born.
When Liam eventually married Heather and more video work started rolling in, we realized we needed more help with the administrative side of things. Video is only half of what happens behind the scenes. There are emails to write, production plans to work out, clients to meet with, social media accounts to run, and much, much more. Heather’s talents are perfectly suited for those needs, so she became a more permanent part of our team.
It still took a few years of trial and error to figure out, but we like to say we found our niche at the crossroads of business and video. As digital natives who grew up in the age of the internet, we intrinsically understand the internet and recognize the influence video has in the digital space, especially if you're looking to sell a service or product. We do what we do because we love partnering with people who are passionate about bettering the lives of others through their expertise – whether that's timber framing or business coaching or art – and we can guide them through the process of utilizing video to take that to the next level.
